Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Regards, slowjoe. Then open the archive on the left and use "F5" or "Extract" to unpack the archive to the other panel. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.

At first, 7-zip file manager shows a directory, which probably is the nested tarball. If I navigate into it, then an extraction process is triggered, which stores its temporary extraction results the content of the tarball in the temp directory on drive C:. When this is done fails in my environmentI can browse through the archive content.

Well, I could copy the complete tarball to the data partition first and then open this new file and browse its content… somewhat inconvenient though.

I was hoping there might be some hidden configuration parameter to point 7-zip to the expected temp directory. There is no such tab in 7-zip v4. Which version do you have? Indeed v9. I specified the temp directory on my data partition. When digging into the gzipped tarball 7-Zip still tries to extract the tarball to the system temp folder on drive C:… I even unchecked the option "Use for removable drives only" as I am not working with removable drives in this case, but it does not help either.

Severe slowdown if extracting from drive C to drive D and temp folder is on drive C due to reading and writing to the same drive rather than reading from one and writing to another.

Significant delay in speed when destination is in any partition other than the one in which the temp folder is located.

The Firefox installer is compressed with the 7-zip program as a self extracting archive, so you do not need the 7-zip program unless you want to extract the files in this archive to make modifications.

This error message comes from the stub that tries to unpack the archive to start the installation and creates a folder in the temp folder to do this and seems to fail to complete this operation. If anyone more knowledgeable in Windows development could shed some light on this, I would surely be grateful.
